Terminology

A plugin deployed as a native package like NSIS (Windows), .img (MacOS) or .deb (Debian). This is the way all plugins was installed before the Plugin Manager emerged in 5.2.0.

The new (from 5.2.0) plugin manager which is able to install tarballs directly in the OpenCPN Options | Plugins GUI.
